Where these rules come from
Sensor height, obstruction clearance, and paved-surface distance are taken directly from the National Weather Service's published Cooperative Observer siting guidance. This is the professional research standard, not a casual rule of thumb — most home yards cannot fully meet the paved-surface distance, and the tool tells you that plainly rather than marking every yard as a failure.
